The National Energy Globe Award, 2017 was jointly presented to SRSP

The National Energy Globe Award, 2017 was jointly presented to SRSP by Her Excellency Dr. Brigitta Blaha, Austrian Ambassador & Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for Defence Production in Islamabad. The award under patronage of UNESCO, UNEP & in partnership with Advantage, Austria is the most prestigious environmental prize worldwide. Out of 2,000 submissions from 178 countries, SRSP was chosen as best project in Pakistan. Receiving the award, the CEO, SRSP thanked everyone and said that SRSP has initiated/completed 331 micro hydro projects in KP (mostly supported by EU & Go-KP). These produce 28 MW of electricity & benefit approx 900,000 population, particularly women & children.

National Disaster Day Awareness walk at Charsadda, KP

SRSP in collaboration with District Admiration District Charsadda observed National Disaster Day on 8th October 2017. The purpose of the effort is to educate the general public how to reduce the effects of natural disasters and save people, and to motivate volunteerism in rescue operations during any disaster in the area. The volunteers of civil defense also demonstrated a demo rescue operation. The operation was observed by a large gathering including Assistant Commissioner/DDMO Charsadda, government officials, general public, media and SRSP. The activity is funded by the Government of Australia.

2 days an experience sharing and learning workshop

An experience sharing and learning workshop organized (9-10 October, 2017) for SRSP staff members involved in WASH programs in FATA, participated by SRSP management and staff from UNICEF. The Project staff shared their field experiences, in a highly interactive environment, to improve project design, strategies and on ground implementation in future. The project is implemented in Khyber, South and North Waziristan agency. 

SRSP’s role in Women’s Economic Empowerment

Establishment of Farmer Field Schools in Khyber Agency

Agriculture and livestock are the main sources of livelihoods in Khyber Agency. Soon after the return of TDPs, SRSP and WFP initiated interventions in Khyber Agency to revive agriculture and make the barren land cultivatable again. Recently, SRSP started Farmer Field Schools (FFS) for on ground learning and modern techniques for farmers. In this regards, 20 farmers of Akakhel Tribe were assessed and trained on Green Beans sowing process. Green Beans are popular vegetable of the area but the local farmers grow it in traditional way which affects their production. At the end of two days training, seeds were distributed among the participants.
