Initiatives for Economic Stability in North Waziristan Agency

45 farmers of village Sheena Khora, Tehsil Miran Shah (NWA) trained under three days training session for Tomato Value Chain establishment. The purpose is to improve practices and techniques of tomato production in the area. In addition these farmers are provided with 90 bags of hybrid seed. The training was organized under a four years project funded by the Government of Germany and financed by KfW to support Reintegration and Rehabilitation for Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) in FATA. The project is implemented by SRSP with the support extended by FATA secretariat.
More than 150 women attended one day workshop on ‘Micro Finance Institutions Linkages’ in District Charsadda and Nowshera under the Government of Australia funded Women Economic Empowerment and Market Development (WEEMD) project. The activity was organized to explore private sector linkages for low-income women entrepreneurs. Women community based organizations will now be facilitated in realizing effective partnerships.

50 KW MHP in District Shangla

A 50 Kilowatts (KW) Micro Hydro Power station (MHP) has been completed by SRSP under EU funded PEACE program in village Barkana, District Shangla. The MHP is providing cheap electricity without load shedding to more than 150 households. Besides local communities the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shangla participated in the inaugural ceremony. The Power house is completed with a total cost of PKR 3,519,999 in which EU share is PKR 3,152,447 while community contribution is PKR 367,552.

Linkages Development for Women Entrepreneurs.

Around 40 women entrepreneurs were taken on an exposure visit to local markets of District Swat. These women entrepreneurs had received skills training in artificial jewelry making and have been organized in a Value Chain group. The purpose is to build linkages with input supplier, buyer, wholesalers and business development service providers. The event was organized by SRSP under the Government of Australia funded Gender Equity Fund (GEF) project.
