UNDP Mission visit to South Waziristan Agency

Resident Coordinator of UN along with Country Director UNDP, Head of UNOCHA Sub-Office Peshawar, Head of UNDSS Pakistan, Assistant Political Agent South Waziristan Agency and Officials of Pak Army paid visit to South Waziristan Agency (SWA). The mission met with Talimi Islahi Jirga of Government Middle School Siplatoi and local communities. The school was rehabilitated by SRSP, under the FATA recovery programme, funded by UNPD. Around 300 students have been enrolled after the school rehabilitated. The project covered another 19 schools in phase 1, in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan. The mission appreciated the involvement of local communities in the implementation of the project.

Shoaib Sultan Khan visit to Local Support Organizations

Renovation and Upgradation of Basic Health Unit

SRSP with the financial assistance of PATRIP Foundation has renovated and expanded 6 Basic Health Units (BHUs) at the Pak-Afghan border region in district Kurram. Recently, Solar Energy Systems have been installed in these 6 BHUs, which are facilitating around 5,600 patients every month.

Finance Minister KP & UNDP representative inaugurates Vocational Training

The representatives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government and UNDP stressed the need for adopting innovative ways to address the issues of unemployment and lack of livelihood opportunities in the merged districts. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister of Finance and Planning Taimur Jhagra and resident representative of UNDP Ignacio Artaza were speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate vocational training for 500 youth from the merged districts of Khyber, North and South Waziristan. The train ing is being organized at the Human Resource Centre of the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) in Hayatabad. The six-month training is being funded by the USAID through UNDP in a project being implemented by the SRSP in the three districts. The youth are being imparted training in different trades including solar panel, auto mechanic, motorcycle, refrigeration and air-condition repairing. The trainings are certified by the City and Guild London.
