SRSP’s Entrepreneurs participated in National Exhibition

35 men and women entrepreneurs from District Swat participated in “Islamabad Handicrafts and Women Entrepreneurs' exhibition held in Islamabad. The entrepreneurs from Swat displayed dried Red Persimmon, Black Persimmon, handmade jewelry and handicrafts. Besides enormous linkages development with a wide range of stakeholders, the entrepreneurs sold products of worth 221,000 PKR during the exhibition. The entrepreneurs are being trained under the Government of Australia funded GEF project and EU funded PEACE project. The exhibition was organized by Islamabad Chamber of commerce.

WEEMD NowShera

37 women from District Nowshera attended one month vocational training course (Tailoring). The purpose of the vocational training is to build the capacities of rural women in entrepreneurial skills to run micro enterprises. Certificates and tool kits distribution ceremony was organized which was attended by Deputy Commissioner Nowshera and District Social welfare officer. This initiative has been funded by the Government of Australia (DFAT) under the Women Economic Empowerment and Market Development (WEEMD) project, which is implemented by SRSP.

UNDP Mission visit to South Waziristan Agency

Resident Coordinator of UN along with Country Director UNDP, Head of UNOCHA Sub-Office Peshawar, Head of UNDSS Pakistan, Assistant Political Agent South Waziristan Agency and Officials of Pak Army paid visit to South Waziristan Agency (SWA). The mission met with Talimi Islahi Jirga of Government Middle School Siplatoi and local communities. The school was rehabilitated by SRSP, under the FATA recovery programme, funded by UNPD. Around 300 students have been enrolled after the school rehabilitated. The project covered another 19 schools in phase 1, in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan. The mission appreciated the involvement of local communities in the implementation of the project.

Skills enhancement training in electrician and sanitary fitting courses

50 young people, between 18 to 30 years of age, receive skills enhancement training in electrician and sanitary fitting courses. The group was selected from District Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera. The training was organized at SRSP’s Technical & Vocational Center in Peshawar, which offered a certified course from City & Guilds UK. Their team conducted post-training evaluation and certificates were distributed among the best performances. The initiative is funded by the Government of Australia under Women Economic Empowerment and Market Development (WEEMD) project.

North Waziristan Irrigation & Link Road

Village MG Zarit, with about 80 Households (600 individuals) mobilized collective action to implement critical infrastructure schemes. Funding assistance from UNDP under FATA recovery project and WFP funded Food for Asset/Training project has enabled SRSP to facilitate holistic support to communities. Photographs depict their stories. The irrigation channels irrigates 750 kanals of agriculture land completed under WFP funded Food for Asset/Training project. 1400 feet lengthy under construction Link Road will improve access for 80 HH (600 individuals) initiated under UNDP funded FATA Recovery Project.

Students Competition Dir Upper PPAF

Student competition events were organized in different schools of District Dir Upper. SRSP organized various events in collaboration with Education department with support from PPAF through the Government of Italy funded project. Members of Village Organizations (VOs), PTCs and Education department officials participated in these events.

SRSP constructing Two Megawatt Power House at Birmogh Golane valley Chitral

The Chinese Engineers helping SRSP install the power generating system at the 2 megawatts power house (MW) at Birmogh Golane valley say that within a week the power house will start test production. Pictures showing SRSP staff getting to the power house in tough weather and its installation. Once test production begins, the long road of working with NEPRA, PESCO and PEDO begins to link up the power generation to the local grid and distribution system for Chitral Town.

Development in Complexity Workshop

SRSP, UNDP, and UNICEF have partnered to deliver a large-scale European Union funded project, which focuses on social cohesion and improving access to education in FATA. A two days Orientation Workshop was organized to plan activities. Sessions were delivered by management including the CEO SRSP who described ‘Development in Complexity’. The project will be delivered in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan represented by FATA Secretariat.
