UPPER DIR, 24 September: District Nazim Upper Dir, Sahibzada Fasihullah, has inaugurated 600KW hydro-power house over Usheri River in Almas area which would be built in collaboration of European Union and Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP).The construction of power house would be completed in a period of eight months at the estimated cost of Rs.83 million which would provide electricity to 1200 households.Local residents lauded the project and said it would help reduce power outage in the area.Talking to Local News Channel TNN a villager Faqeer Shehzad said, “Starting work on the construction of the power house was a long-standing desire of the local people.Finally, our efforts have born fruits as the project has been inaugurated. More than 12000 families will benefit from the power house”.The youngsters could not study due to long hours load-shedding. They experienced power outage for more than 20 hours on daily basis”, said Saif-ul-Malook..

Two grand dialogues were organized during which 700 community members participated

Spin Qamar village is a far flung area in South Waziristan Agency with over 30,000 population. TDPs have recently returned to the area, which was affected during the crisis. 
Two grand dialogues were organized during which 700 community members participated. They identified their basic critical infrastructure needs; irrigation channel to resume agriculture and drinking water supply schemes. The events were also attended by community elders and representatives of government agencies. The initiative is taken under a four years project funded by the Government of Germany and financed by KfW to support Reintegration and Rehabilitation for Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) in FATA. The project is implemented by SRSP with the support extended by FATA secretariat.

Microhydro Projects in District Shangla

SRSP has completed Two micro hydro power projects under European Union funded PEACE Programme in union council Alpuri of District Shangla.  These power houses benefit more than 370 households in both villages of Bar Kalay and Kuz Kalay. Besides the local communities the inaugural ceremony was attended by Commissioner Malakand Division. The Total cost of the project is PKR: 5,416,506 in which EU share is PKR: 4,849,322 and community share is PKR: 567,182.

Launching ceremony of the project “Aid to Uprooted People in Pakistan (AUP)

Launching ceremony of the project “Aid to Uprooted People in Pakistan (AUP) held at Governor’s House Peshawar KP. The EU funded project AUP is being implemented in five agencies of the Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) including Khyber, Kurram, Orkazai, North Waziristan and South Waziristan Agencies. The total duration of the project is five years. The objective of the project is to “Facilitate the reintegration of FATA TDPs by creating a favorable environment for their return”. The event was attended by Additional Chief Secretary FATA, Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan, Head of Economic Cooperation and Development of German Embassy, Chairman of Rural Support Programmes Network, Representatives of UN the agencies i.e: UNHCR, WFP, UNFPA, GIZ, UNICEF, KFW. At the occasion Political Agents of all five agencies were also present.
