MINI HYDEL POWER PROJECT 600 KW

UPPER DIR, 24 September: District Nazim Upper Dir, Sahibzada Fasihullah, has inaugurated 600KW hydro-power house over Usheri River in Almas area which would be built in collaboration of European Union and Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP).The construction of power house would be completed in a period of eight months at the estimated cost of Rs.83 million which would provide electricity to 1200 households.Local residents lauded the project and said it would help reduce power outage in the area.Talking to Local News Channel TNN a villager Faqeer Shehzad said, “Starting work on the construction of the power house was a long-standing desire of the local people.Finally, our efforts have born fruits as the project has been inaugurated. More than 12000 families will benefit from the power house”.The youngsters could not study due to long hours load-shedding. They experienced power outage for more than 20 hours on daily basis”, said Saif-ul-Malook..

Finance Minister KP & UNDP representative inaugurates Vocational Training

The representatives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government and UNDP stressed the need for adopting innovative ways to address the issues of unemployment and lack of livelihood opportunities in the merged districts. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister of Finance and Planning Taimur Jhagra and resident representative of UNDP Ignacio Artaza were speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate vocational training for 500 youth from the merged districts of Khyber, North and South Waziristan. The train ing is being organized at the Human Resource Centre of the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) in Hayatabad. The six-month training is being funded by the USAID through UNDP in a project being implemented by the SRSP in the three districts. The youth are being imparted training in different trades including solar panel, auto mechanic, motorcycle, refrigeration and air-condition repairing. The trainings are certified by the City and Guild London.

Renovation and Upgradation of Basic Health Unit

SRSP with the financial assistance of PATRIP Foundation has renovated and expanded 6 Basic Health Units (BHUs) at the Pak-Afghan border region in district Kurram. Recently, Solar Energy Systems have been installed in these 6 BHUs, which are facilitating around 5,600 patients every month.

Take A Child to School

In District Haripur Union Council Pind Kamal Khan Volunteers (Youth) received rewards for the enrollment of out of school children in the Government Primary schools under “Take a Child to School” (TACS) project. British Council verified the enrollment done by the volunteers through third party. SRSP identified these youth volunteers through LSOs, and Local Communities and built their capacities through capacity building training. These volunteers identified out of schools chi ldren through Household survey and conducted awareness session on Article 25-A with parents and local communities and enrolled the identified out of schools children in Govt. Primary Schools, At the end the cheques were distributed among the volunteers against verified enrollment in the event. The is funded by British Council and implemented by SRSP
